F.A.Q

Before you email Chris and have to wait a long time for a response, try reading the Frequently Asked Questions section and see if your query is in here first.

How do you create Martian TV?
I come up with a bunch of story lines, advert ideas, programmes and products and then brainstorm them to find the best ones. Once this is done I draw a quick thumbnail sketch (really rough) to get an idea of what panels will be on the page and what will happen in each.

Once I have the thumbnail I use a sheet of A4 paper, draw the whole thing in pencil (I use the free ones from IKEA - how's that for artistic) and get it to a pretty much finished state. This is then inked over, pencil erased and scanned into my computer. I scan at 600dpi black and white mode and save a s a TIFF file. This file is then converted to 300dpi RGB mode for colouring.

Using Photoshop I convert the black line artwork into a separate layer and set it to 'Multiply' mode. I then colour the characters underneath this and then the backgrounds underneath the characters. I add any text, effects or blurs where needed and then flatten the whole thing. I do the text boxes in Quark, PDF the whole thing and bring it back into Photoshop for saving to the web. I know this could be done a whole manner of different ways, but this works for me and I'm stubborn.

Can I send you any story ideas?
I have far too many to do as it stands so please do not send me any ideas as I cannot and will not use them.

Can I send you any artwork?
I'm always happy to see your work, and provide feedback where I can, but I probably won't be starting a fan section on the site - unless I get a lot of decent work through!

What rating is this web comic - can my little brother read it?
Hmm... good question. I have tried to keep the language fairly clean as this is supposed to be a news station but the violence can get fairly extreme, as can some of the subject matter. I probably wouldn't show this to anyone under twelve or you might have some awkward questions to answer...

Can I buy any artwork?
Of course! All the artwork on this site is for private sale. You can either purchase the original black and white artwork or high-reslution prints of the digital artwork - both signed by the artist. The original work will hold some surprises for the buyer as I often erase things prior to colouring! Contact me for prices and availability.

Can I use your artwork?
This is a different matter. All the content on this site, other than the banners in the links section, is copyright Chris Booth © 2006. You do not have permission to use anything on this site without expressed written permission from me, the creator. If you see this content elsewhere please contact me immediately as it is probably being used without my knowledge. I'm an artist - this is how I make my living - so if you use my work illegally you are stealing from me.

Are the characters based on anyone?
You see this response at the end of movies: Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. This is exactly the case for Martian TV, unless I have included friends or colleagues who have given me expressed permission to use their likeness in the artwork.

My question isn't answer here - what now?
Now you can email me! Have a think about what you're typing though - keep the questions relevant or they'll end up in my junk mail and you'll be waiting a very long time for a response.
